Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, expressed her appreciation to the prime minister for virtually taking part in the event despite being bereaved. The PM noted the importance of the December 30 Vande Bharat launch, noting that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had raised the tricolour in the Andaman Islands on the same day in 1943.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually opened development projects worth $7,800 crore in West Bengal on Friday in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, just hours after participating in the funeral ceremonies of his mother Hiraben Modi in Gandhinagar.
At 3:30 in the morning, Hiraben passed away in a hospital in Ahmedabad. She clocked in at one hundred. The prime minister had several engagements lined up.

Speaking at the ceremony, the prime minister said that the Indian Railways was receiving a record amount of funding from the government and that it was undergoing a metamorphosis into a new entity.
In his remarks, Mr. Modi emphasised the significance of the Vande Bharat Express’s launch on December 30 since it coincided with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s raising of the tricolour in the Andaman Islands on the same day in 1943 .
“The Indian Railways have worked on the foundations of modernization over the last eight years, and during the course of the next eight years, the Indian Railways will start a fresh journey towards modernization,” Prime Minister Modi said.
Mr. Modi noted that trains like the Vande Bharat and Tejas were being produced in the nation and that the anticipated 475 Vande Bharat trains will be essential in a new form. The Prime Minister, who also lay the cornerstone for the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, promised that it would be updated similarly to airports and other stations.
The Prime Minister mentioned the country’s metro train services, stating that over the previous eight years, the services had been expanded to twenty cities and that there were 800 kilometres of active metro railway tracks. The Joka BBG Metro project, according to Mr. Modi, is the outcome of this initiative. The Joka BBG route’s metro services were flagged off between the Joka-Taratala stations during the day. The PM claimed that the metro services between Joka and Taratala would make life easier for people who live in Kolkata.
The Prime Minister dedicated projects worth $7600 crore to the people of West Bengal, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
In his remarks on the country’s use of its waterways, Mr. Modi stated that 100 waterways were being constructed.
