India has mandated RT-PCR tests for international travelers arriving from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand due to a surge in Covid cases. Mansukh Mandaviya, India’s Health Minister, told news agency ANI that passengers must take the test upon arrival. Those who display symptoms or test positive will be quarantined. Additionally, passengers must complete an Air Suvidha form to declare their health status.
India reported 201 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours and an overall recovery rate of 98.8%. The active cases stand at 3,397. With rising cases in five countries, particularly China, India must stay alert for potential increases in infections and deaths.
On Thursday (Dec 24), the government decided that 2% of international arrivals will be randomly tested for COVID-19. The civil aviation ministry asked airport operators and airlines to adhere to guidelines and lead identified passengers to testing facilities.
