5G services in India
PM Modi said the launch of 5G is a gift to 130 billion Indians
The 5th generation mobile network (5G) is a global wireless standard that provides internet speeds 10 times faster than 4G networks. It provides data speeds of over 20 Gbps per second or 100Mbps per second. It ensures high data rate, reliable communication and low latency (minimum delay). It will help connect billions of IoT devices, improve streaming quality, and improve critical services like telesurgery and autonomous vehicles. It will enable real-time monitoring of disasters, improvement of precision agriculture, automation of hazardous industrial activities such as offshore and deep mining.
Initially, it will be launched in 13 cities in India. These include Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Pune, Jamnagar and Gurugram.
Important metro cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata will get 5G services first. Reliance Jio is planning a Diwali rollout.
The rest of the country will get the next-generation network by December 2023.
