We will gain from India’s plans to build new space infrastructure and open up the sector: Emirates Space Agency DG

ABU DHABI In a statement on Tuesday, the director general of the UAE Space Agency, Saelm Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, praised India for “laying out a new structure in the space sector by setting up new companies to promote businesses with private players and foreign entities” and claimed that the new set-up will also be advantageous to his country.

Al Qubaisi stated in an interview with TOI that it is a fantastic chance for India to launch new public sector entities (Isro’s commercial PSU NSIL and space regulator IN-SPACe) to allow the private sector to have more access to its space assets. It also desires to develop fresh collaborations with overseas competitors. The UAE can take advantage of this as well. Similar to India, our mandate is to concentrate on growing the private sector.

UAE agency director general said.“ I consider the launch of Nayif-1 (a UAE nanosatellite launched in 2017) by India as a transactional cooperation as it was a one-off. Thereafter Covid affected launches for over two years. There is always the question of the competitiveness and pricing issues (for satellite launch) but there are intangible benefits too. There are many opportunities for space cooperation between the two sides as both countries have strategic partnership,”.
“Since it was a one-time event, I view India’s launch of Nayif-1 (a UAE nanosatellite launched in 2017) as a transactional cooperation. Covid then negatively impacted launches for almost two years. There is always the concern over pricing (for satellite launch) and competitiveness difficulties, but there are also intangible advantages. Numerous chances are available.
