The end of the day to go home and see the meter! 37 lakh ‘smart meters’ are going to be installed in the state
The ‘Smart Meter’ service is about to be launched in the state. Employees of the electricity department no longer have to go door to door to check the meter. Through ‘smart meter’, they will be able to know the information regarding the electricity cost of the customer from now on sitting in the office. Power Minister Arup Biswas said this in the state assembly.

In the question and answer session of the Assembly on Wednesday, Arup said that there is a plan to install 37 lakh ‘smart meters’ across the state. The plan will be implemented step by step. ‘Smart meters’ will be installed in different parts of the state. It will facilitate the work of the electricity department. Arup said that the central government will give 60 percent of the money for this project, while the state government will spend another 40 percent of the money. The power minister also said that a total of 11 crore 89 lakh rupees will be spent on this project.

In the Assembly, the Power Minister said that the power department has 2 crore 20 lakh customers in the state. CESC has 33 lakh subscribers. Under this project, 87 sub stations will be constructed in the state.

Arup Biswas took a hand to the center in the assembly over the distribution of electricity. He alleged that Gujarat gets electricity, but West Bengal is deprived. In this context, BJP MLA Ashok Dinda from Maina expressed his dissatisfaction with the electricity service in the state. He claims that there is no electricity for about 3 to 4 hours a day in Maina. Arup’s counter sarcasm to Dinda after hearing that, “You live in Calcutta.” How will you know if there is no electricity in Maina?” In response to Arup Biswas, Dinda said again, “Have you installed a CCTV camera behind me? How do you know where I live?
